Dear coffee enthusiast,
At Lapino Roastery, we believe that the love of coffee is more than just drinking it every morning or sharing it with friends. We believe that to truly experience every wonderful note in coffee, we need to know where it came from, how it grew, how it was roasted. Knowing the long way coffee travels before it ends up in our cups helps us to cherish every sip and every moment more.
So, without further ado, here are the 10 steps that coffee goes through to be in your cups.
- Coffee planting. The coffee bean is actually a seed. If the coffee bean has not undergone drying or roasting, it can be planted. Usually, coffee beans are initially planted in large troughs and watered frequently. The seedlings are then transferred to the plantation.
- Harvesting. The coffee tree needs to grow for at least 3-4 years before it can be harvested. When the time comes, bright red and orange berries, called coffee cherries, grow. The harvest is usually done once a year. This part requires a huge amount of human effort, as not all plantations in South America are mechanised for this process.
- Processing coffee cherries. After harvesting, it is important to quickly peel all the cherries and remove the coffee beans. There are several ways to do this. Once all the beans have been removed, they are left in water for 1-2 days to allow the outer layer of the bean to fully separate.
- Drying beans. Drying of coffee beans usually takes place on large platforms in front of the sun.
- Selection of beans. The dried beans are passed through machines that clean them completely and select them so that they are all the right size and weight.
- Transport of coffee beans. Green coffee beans can now travel to different countries, to different roasters. Green coffee beans from Colombia, Brazil, Peru, El Salvador also arrive at the Lapino Roastery, where we take care of the rest.
- Tasting coffee. Every roastery needs to make sure that the beans arriving are of high quality, just as roasters want to make sure that the darkness and roasting method they use are up to standard, which is why this step is so important to ensure that every packet of coffee, when roasted in large volumes, is the same, of the same quality, and tasty.
- Coffee roasting. With COFFEED, one of the most modern coffee roasters, we roast each packet of coffee differently. The roasting temperature and time of the coffee beans varies. The green coffee beans are always stirred in the machine to prevent burning and to ensure even roasting.
- Coffee preparation and drinking. This last step is a great pleasure for every coffee enthusiast or lover. Almost everyone has their own favourite coffee preparation method and ritual. Well, if you haven't discovered yours yet, you can read about the most popular coffee preparation methods on our website.
- Enjoyment. Once you've made a cup of coffee, all you have to do is relax and enjoy.
We believe you'll now cherish every sip of coffee even more. Enjoy Lapino Roastery's most delicious coffee and discover your favourite.
