Different origins – unique taste
Ground coffee is not a uniform product. Different coffee bean regions Each coffee has a different flavor profile, even when ground. That's why we provide clear information about the origin, roast level and flavor characteristics for each coffee.
Coffee from African regions is usually characterized by a more pronounced acidity, fruity and floral notes. South American coffee is often balanced, with chocolate, nutty or caramel aftertastes. Central American regions offer coffee with a mild sweetness and a clean taste. This information allows you to choose ground coffee not randomly, but according to personal taste.
Why is grinding fineness critical?
The coarseness of the grind directly determines the taste and extraction quality of the coffee. Water, when in contact with the coffee, extracts flavoring substances, and their amount depends on the grind size and preparation method.
Grinding too fine results in over-extraction. This coffee becomes bitter, has a heavier taste, and can clog the filter when using filter devices.
Grinding too coarsely means too little contact with water. The result is often a sour, watery, and weak coffee.
For this reason, „universal” ground coffee from supermarkets is usually not suitable for all preparation methods. One grind cannot be optimal for either an espresso machine, a French press, or a drip coffee. Therefore, we recommend grinding coffee according to a specific preparation method. You can find more about coffee preparation on the page How to make coffee?.
How to choose grinding according to the preparation method?
To make your choice easier, we have provided a short guide to the most popular preparation methods.
For a cup of coffee, where the coffee is brewed simply with hot water, a medium or medium-fine grind is best. It allows for sufficient flavor without excessive bitterness.
Espresso requires a very fine grind, similar to flour, to create the necessary pressure and deliver a rich flavor.
A medium or medium-fine grind is suitable for Moka coffee. It ensures a balanced taste and prevents excessive bitterness. Read more about this method in the section Mocha coffee.
For the French press method, a coarse grind, similar to sea salt, is recommended. This helps to avoid sediment in the cup and maintain a clean taste. For more information, see French press.
